North Malabar is the erstwhile Kolathu Nadu. Kolathu Nadu comprised Thulunadu, Chirakkal and Kadathanadu. During the British Raj the area except Mahé was under Madras State. After independence of India the area became part of Kerala State except Mahé, which became a Sub-Division of Pondicherry.
